Pinpointing the extraordinary in the routine. Getting lost in the complexities of the many things we take for granted. Finding the common ground that connects us all.
Outlook
Supper ended after a gorgeous sunset ushered in a peaceful evening and the lights twinkled on across the city skyline. Guests lingered around the table late into the night, sipping on dessert cocktails and reveling on our little community created just for the day, on this rooftop in the city, so far away from the many realities waiting below.
Source
During cocktail hour, we were given the unique chance to step back from our end of the food chain, all the way to the source, through a live butchering demonstration in the barn. With a cocktail in hand, everyone in attendance was able to watch the craft of whole animal butchery unfold in front of them — moments before sitting down to try the results at the table.
Nuit
Within the landscape of the impeccably manicured Redeemed Farm, the lawn bursting with hydrangeas in full bloom, we set the table for a sparkling evening painted in shades of blue and gold. As the sun set in tandem with the rising moon, the shining bulbs of chandeliers glinted in the bubbles of champagne glasses, blurring into an image of impressionistic joy.
Harvest
Everything about this Supper sung of peak season in the Northeast — from the pop of fresh cherry tomatoes to the sizzle of fresh oysters on the grill, the bright fresh flowers on the table to the colorful menu sourced almost completely from the farm, and the conversations that lingered long after the candles burned down. It was one of those lingering summer nights that nobody wants to end.
Forage
As the evening deepened, the big sky turned technicolor with an incredible sunset. The night ended in the kind of wild darkness that makes you feel small in the vast landscape, without any light pollution to dilute the immensity of the stars. After an evening of amazing connection, no one felt alone in the endless night as they left the pastures together, kicking dirt off their boots on the way back to the bustle of reality in the valley below.
Seed
There is a serene beauty to the Hamptons in the shoulder seasons, before the crowds arrive and the summer sunshine reflects blue skies onto whitewashed siding. In the grayer days of spring, the bright green of new growth seems to glow against cloudy skies. It’s much easier, in that light, to remember that while Hamptons is one of America’s most iconic summer playgrounds, it is also one of the country’s great agricultural regions.
Lowcountry
When the food is this good, we can worry a little bit less about things like weather or whether or not the table is so perfectly set (although we still try our best, every time). But, as rain poured all day the day before the Supper and flooded the lawn outside The Barn at Bedaw Farms, we started to wonder if we’d be able to set the table there at all.
Tropicalé
Picture this: winding garden paths lead past bright buds of tropical flowers as seashells crunch beneath your feet. The scent of ripe citrus floats through the air, the lush canopy dampening any sounds from outside, except for maybe some quiet chittering of birdsong. Smoke tangles through the branches of a nearby banyan tree, carrying the sweet scent of charred pineapple…
